Parijse hotspots….

Mijn werk is zo gek nog niet. Zojuist heb ik een drukke inkoopperiode afgerond. De laatste stop was de Maison & Objet. Vorig weekend mocht ik daarom even een bliksembezoekje brengen aan mijn lievelingsstad Parijs. Er moest natuurlijk hard gewerkt worden, maar er was gelukkig tussendoor nog even tijd om inspiratie op te doen in een museum en een aantal winkels.

My work is not that crazy. I have just finished a busy buying period. The last stop was the Maison & Objet. So last weekend I had the opportunity to pay a lightning visit to my favourite city, Paris. We had to work hard of course, but fortunately in between there was time to get inspired in a museum and a number of shops.

Zodra ik ben aangekomen in Parijs ga ik uiteraard altijd even naar een boutique van Betjeman & Barton. Deze keer was dat de vestiging aan de Boulevard des Filles du Calvaires nummer 24. Wel zo handig want dan kan ik een ‘killing combi’ maken met een bezoekje aan mijn lievelingswinkel: de concept store Merci die er aan de overkant op loopafstand zit. Dit is werkelijk een geweldige winkel. Het rondlopen is een feest op zich. Alles klopt hier. Het prachtige grote oude pand zit achter een onopvallende gevel, maar het aanbod is overweldigend. Van mooie kledingmerken (o.a. Isabelle Marant) tot gadgets voor in de keuken en in huis tot prachtig linnengoed (letterlijk want 100% linnen) voor tafel, bed en bad. Ze hebben er zelfs Nederlands design staan van o.a. Hella Jongerius en Piet Hein Eek. In de winkel zit het “Used Book café” dat is ingericht  als een oude bibliotheek met allemaal tweedehands boeken, die je kan kopen maar ook ter plekke mag lezen.In de kelder zit nog een ander restaurant “La Cantine de merci” en naast de ingang zit het “Cinéma Café”. Voor elk wat wils dus. Iedere maand wordt de winkel volledig gerestyled. Slim, want zo blijf je je klantenkring naar de winkel trekken.
Aanrader: laat je cadeaus door hen inpakken. Simpel maar zo mooi!

When I arrive in Paris, I always go to a Betjeman & Barton boutique. This time, it was the one at the Boulevard des Filles du Calvaires number 24. It was very convenient because then I could make a ‘killing combination’ with a visit to my favourite shop: the concept store Merci, which is just across the road. This really is a great shop. Walking around is a celebration in itself. Everything is just right here. The beautiful large old building is behind an inconspicuous facade, but the selection is overwhelming. From beautiful clothing brands (such as Isabelle Marant) to gadgets for the kitchen and the home to beautiful linen (literally because it is 100% linen) for the table, bed and bath. They even have Dutch design by Hella Jongerius and Piet Hein Eek, among others. In the shop there is the “Used Book café”, which is decorated like an old library with all kinds of second-hand books, which you can buy but also read on the spot. In the basement there is another restaurant “La Cantine de merci” and next to the entrance there is the “Cinéma Café”. So there is something for everyone. Every month, the shop is completely restyled. Smart, because that way you keep attracting customers to the shop.
Recommended: have your gifts wrapped by them. Simple but so beautiful!

Kort geleden werd ik getipt dat er even voorbij Merci (op nummer 93) een nieuwe winkel voor foodies is geopend. La Maison Plisson: een bio winkel waar je ook kan eten. Dat was natuurlijk mijn volgende stop. Heel eerlijk gezegd vond ik het een beetje tegenvallen, want wij zijn in Nederland heel erg verwend met Marqt (hoewel je daar niet kan eten – misschien een idee voor Quirijn Bolle?). Ik dronk er een kopje thee en schoot er wat mooie plaatjes. Als je toch in de buurt bent is het zeker de moeite waard er even langs te gaan.

I was tipped off recently that a new shop for foodies has opened just past Merci (at number 93). La Maison Plisson: an organic shop where you can also eat. That was my next stop, of course. To be honest, I found it a bit disappointing, as we are very spoilt in the Netherlands with Marqt (although you cannot eat there – maybe an idea for Quirijn Bolle?). I had a cup of tea and shot some nice pictures. If you are in the neighbourhood anyway, it is definitely worth stopping by.

Mijn volgende stop was de nieuwe conceptstore van Inès de la Fressange (Rue de Grenelle 24 – in het 7de). Ooit was zij de muze van Karl Lagerfeld. Haar winkel is een lust voor het oog en bedoeld voor de èchte Parisienne of les mademoiselles die dat willen worden. Wil je weten hoe je dat doet dan kan je haar handboekje ter plekke kopen. Het is een aanrader, dus zeker gaan kijken (en misschien iets kopen).

My next stop was the new concept store of Inès de la Fressange (Rue de Grenelle 24 – in the 7th). She was once the muse of Karl Lagerfeld. Her shop is a feast for the eyes and intended for the true Parisienne or les mademoiselles who want to become one. If you want to know how to do it, you can buy her handbook on the spot. It is highly recommended, so be sure to have a look (and maybe buy something).

De winkel is dichtbij Le Bon Marché – ook zo’n adres dat ik nooit wil overslaan. Al is het alleen maar voor La Grande Épicerie – een waar foodie walhalla. Ga er naar toe en geniet van al het lekkers en moois. Deze keer was het thema Brooklyn.

The shop is close to Le Bon Marché – another address I never want to miss. If only for La Grande Épicerie – a true foodie’s paradise. Go there and enjoy all the goodies and treats. This time, the theme was Brooklyn.

Mijn laatste stop was La Fondation Louis Vuitton in het Bois de Boulogne. Een paar jaar geleden bracht ik een bezoek aan het Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao en sindsdien ben ik fan van het werk van architect Frank Ghery. Hij maakt gebruik van harde materialen, maar weet daarmee een organische geheel neer te zetten. De gebouwen zijn zeer indrukwekkend. Het museum is gemakkelijk te bereiken met hun eigen (elektrische) shuttlebusje dat stopt op de hoek van Place Charles de Gaulle hoek Avenue Friedland (vlakbij de metro uitgang en de Arc de Triomphe). Het rijdt om het kwartier en kost maar €1,00. Ik zag er de tentoonstelling Pop & Musique. Natuurlijk heb ik er ook geluncht. Het Restaurant Le Frank is heel bijzonder ingericht. De verantwoording voor de keuken ligt bij Jean Louis Nomicos (2 Michelin **). Wel even van tevoren reserveren.

My last stop was La Fondation Louis Vuitton  in the Bois de Boulogne. A few years ago I visited the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and since then I have been a fan of the work of architect Frank Ghery. He uses hard materials but manages to create an organic whole. The buildings are very impressive. The museum is easy to reach with their own (electric) shuttle bus that stops at the corner of Place Charles de Gaulle and Avenue Friedland (near the metro exit and the Arc de Triomphe). It runs every 15 minutes and costs only €1.00. I saw the Pop & Musique exhibition there. Of course, I also had lunch there. The Restaurant Le Frank has a very special decoration. The responsibility for the kitchen lies with Jean Louis Nomicos (2 Michelin **). Be sure to book in advance.
